Q: Does Dr. Nguyen see patients virtually or in person?

A: Dr. Nguyen primarily provides telehealth visits, as this is convenient for parents and children, as well as for young adults who work in a different city. (There's also a bit of traffic in Los Angeles.) However, in some cases, Dr. Nguyen sees patients in person, as required to manage certain medications or to meet federal requirements. In such cases, she is able to see patients in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Encino, Echo Park, and Pasadena.

Q: Do I (or my child) have to do another intake if there's already a diagnosis?

Yes. When starting care with a new psychiatrist or psychiatric provider, an intake appointment with a diagnostic evaluation is standard practice, even if you already have a diagnosis.

Since the provider doesn't yet know you, they need to meet with you to build rapport and fully understand your condition. Before they can provide treatment (such as medication management or therapy), they must confirm the diagnosis and rule out any other conditions to ensure nothing is being missed.

This thorough evaluation is for patient safety and wellbeing. It is not recommended for providers to begin psychiatric treatment without conducting their own assessment of a new patient.
